A Party WITH PiZzA and PiE for the BiRtHdAy GuY

Today we will celebrate James! Our youngest son was 24 on Saturday. This is the summer that James and his friends have been having fun with PiZza. EVERYONE loves Pizza, right? Well, James and his friends have been coming up with some interesting and unusual topping ideas. Like these…

Left, pesto chicken with artichoke hearts. Right, peanut butter Thai chicken with sprouts and spring rolls.

And eating pizza in cool places like this… ( a few of James’ friends)

The pizzas all looks so delicious!! So we thought it only fitting for his Birthday to have pizza. Nothing too crazy but another James creation. ( BBQ Chicken, and Hawaiian …pretty normal)

And of course pie, instead of cake, because he already had a Birthday cake when he was camping on his Birthday. And who doesn’t LOVE peanut butter cup pie!

Happy Birthday James! We love you tons!!!

Happy Natal Day!

What is Natal Day?

This is what Wikipedia says…

Natal Day in Canada. People of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia hold “birthday” parties for their province on the first Monday of August. Huge birthday cakes are prepared and distributed. Other events include communal meals, parades, sporting activities and firework displays.

Ok…so I don’t know about the huge Birthday cake part BUT I know Nova Scotia’s truly love a long weekend and fireworks. Enjoy your day however you celebrate.

Happy Natal Day Nova Scotia!

Yum! All these pictures in one post are making my mouth water. What are your favourite Canadian foods?

Today is the last day of July …summer is half over. Where did the time go? I guess when you’re traveling days run together and you don’t even know which day of the week it is. Tomorrow David is back to work, it’s the first of August, Natal Day, here in Nova Scotia, and the start of EVERYTHING “Back to School” Wait…didn’t the kids just get out of school. Ahh…

ACROSS CANADA DAY: 18 July 27~ Montreal Bagels

I was craving authentic Montreal bagels! Today was supposed to be the the little diversion in our Across Canada Trip. Today we left Stoufville  for home and were gonna dip down to the USA. Just for a change of scenery.  We have done the drive from the Toronto area to Bridgewater via Canada so many times, we have also gone through the USA where gas is usually cheaper BUT, the more I got thinking about it the more I realized to make this a truly Canadian Road Trip,  that we needed to continue through Canada. And besides…I was craving Montreal Bagels. St-viateur bagels to be exact. They are the best! And then smoked meat and poutine….ya we just had to go to Montreal!

Traffic was busy on the 401, lots of construction and actually lots of construction right in Old Port Montreal. We stopped by St. Viateur Street to the original flag ship store of St. Viateur bagels. They are open 24/7 and there’s usually a lineup for fresh out of the oven bagels.

Tonight we are staying on Rue Saint Paul, the oldest street in the city with cobblestone streets, although I think some of the construction is to take the old cobblestone out. We are in a quaint designer boutique hotel in the heart of old town Montreal.

So out we went for a little adventure…smoked meat sandwich from a food truck at the port and then authentic poutine with real cheese curds from the famous Montreal Poutine restaurant.

I enjoy these kind of places so much especially at night…

Goodnight from our little boutique hotel in Montreal ❤

ACROSS CANADA DAY: 13 July 22~ Nanaimo Bar in Nanaimo, BC

Today I had one thing on my mind, haha. Well no, a lot more than one BUT today I knew we would be going through Nanaimo, BC and for the longest time, I have had on my bucket list to eat a delicious Nanaimo square in Nanaimo, BC!!! It can’t be too hard to find a great coffee shop that serves Nanaimo squares.

The other thing in this area that is so very cool are the humongous trees!!!!

The very early morning drive from Squamish to the “other Ferry route” ( Horseshoe Bay was sold out) the Ferry to the Island, the drive from Victoria up to Nanaimo to McMillan Park to Tofino was fabulous. Did I mention the goats on the roof? What a wonderful day, a highlight for sure!

Oh and dinner tonight at the Shelter…does it get any better?

pS Pictures to be posted later! Tofino is a surf town and Internet at our hotel is bad…so I’m just taking a couple days break and Chillin’ rather than be frustrated. After all isn’t that what you do here…

Here are some pics!

ACROSS CANADA DAY: 3 July 12~ Niagara On The Lake

About 30 km from Niagara Falls is a beautiful town, Niagara On The Lake. Tourists often describe it as “the prettiest town in Ontario” It’s where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario and it is Ontario’s wine region with vineyard after vineyard. There are also markets and fresh fruits. There’s a lot of History and Historical places to see at Niagara on The Lake, however, knowing my husband’s “love” for history…we don’t tend to focus on that aspect, but there’s lots to see and learn.

Niagara on the Lake is my favourite place in this area. We always visit when we are at Martin & Rebecca’s. It’s a place that I can keep going back to, just to wander the streets and shops, peek in the art galleries, have a coffee, maybe a bite to eat and a glass of wine, watch the sights, watch people. It’s my idea of a relaxing few hours of my vacation. What a wonderful ( very HOT 35 degrees) day!

Here are some pictures of our lovely day…

Please don’t eat the berries

I had a visitor in my garden. Actually I get  frequent visitors. I LOVE to see them but really wish they wouldn’t fill up on greens in MY garden.

IMG_9093We tried spraying a product …but the whole back yard smelled like Coyote urine…gross!!!!

Now that the blueberries are on the bushes, I sure hope they are not in to green berries as well. I really would like to be able to pick them when they are ripe.

Well, it’s Friday and we had a good rain overnight! Hopefully it will help the dryness we have been having!

Port City

If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time you know that I love the waterfront in Halifax and it’s especially fun if there is a cruise ship visiting.

Today was a day in the city with Martin & Rebecca. Seaport Market, Cruise Pavilion & Shops (because there was a ship in) Harbour walk, a visit to the new and very modern Halifax Central Library , and a quick visit to the Hydrostone Neighbourhood and Market. Did I mention we enjoyed a Lobster sandwich and Fish Tacos …

Family Days

family

These days are family days! GOODE family all together this weekend. A little bit hectic and crazy the more Goodes that are added to the list, BUT fun to be together.

Canada Day many of the Goodes gathered in Bedford at Glenn & Holly’s home to celebrate Canada Day. David worked so we didn’t get to go this year. Late Friday night David’s twin arrived. His brother and wife and youngest son will stay with us this week while other family are staying with David’s parents. Their son Jonathan is also here for just the weekend ( he’s working in NFLD for the summer) so on Saturday while David caught up on a few hours sleep they spent some time in the city and we joined them later to have some time together celebrating our son James and their son Jonathan. These two graduated the same day a couple weeks ago…

IMG_8467 Maxwell’s Plum, always a favourite IMG_8476

IMG_8469 IMG_8471 IMG_8473

And even a quick drive by SMU where James will study in SeptemberIMG_8478 IMG_8480Some of the cousins with babies and little ones have also been enjoying quality time together.

Sunday was Goode Family Day in Mahone Bay at David’s parents. EVERYONE was there. Ok, not everyone ( it’s hard to get everyone together anymore) BUT lots of the “GOODE GANG”

Here is a pic of David’s parents with the GREAT Grandkids, yes, that’s right they have Great Grandkids! They’re so sweet!!!

But sadly…David & I didn’t make it again. David was up early this am and out washing all the cars in the yard ( it’s good therapy haha, he really enjoys it)

IMG_8482And while he was in the middle of that he got a call to go back in to work. A serious situation and something that took hours to get straightened around. That’s just the way things are when you’re on call 24/7. He got done in time for us to go visit for an hour and then it was home and to bed because 4am comes early!

Today I had Jeremy while David’s twin brother and his wife celebrated their 29th Anniversary in Lunenburg.

IMG_8486

Everyone is around for the rest of the week so I am sure we will still have lots of time to catch up. At least his brother and family are with us and so we get to see them a little more.

But I have to say…I am really looking forward to our summer vacations with NO work interruptions!!!! Just a few more days…a few more days… 😛

Wishing you a great week!!! It’s a hot one here.
