Our “Go To” Place

Only twenty minutes away and it’s just so lovely, I guess it’s become our “go to place” for dinner, a walk ( stroll) and dessert. Yes, Lunenburg.

Tonight we were in Lunenburg with our oldest son and fiancée for dinner. This time the Old Fish Factory was our choice.  ( Our youngest son works there part-time, and was working tonight)There are three restaurants in Lunenburg we like. The Grand Banker, The South Shore Fish Shack and The Old Fish Factory & Ice House Bar. It is just a wonderful town.

Lines——–

We’ve had a gorgeous few days. Rain last week to water our newly sod lawn and then sunshine and lots of sunshine and it’s been growing!!! When you first lay sod it has all kinds of lines and rectangles. It doesn’t blend in like normal grass does and it takes a little while. But because it has been growing so nicely the lines are disappearing quickly and it’s looking great, we are so pleased!! And after a few weeks…TONIGHT, was the very first mow. Now there’s new lines…this time from mowing.

And Another

Another beauty!! We really have to take advantage and do something on these beautiful evenings. One last night, another tonight. These are what we long for during the cold East Coast Winters. Summers can be busy too, but it’s nice to enjoy the evenings.

This evening, the other side of the river…and one of our favourites… Lunenburg!

National Best Friend Day

June 8 is designated as National Best Friend Day. It’s a day to celebrate your bestie!

Life wouldn’t be the same without best friends. They’re the friends that can be counted on to be there at a moment’s notice. The ones who love, laugh, support, and cherish – in both good and bad times. A picnic in the park, a get together over coffee, or a nice meal in a favourite restaurant are just a couple ideas to celebrate a close friendship. Should distance keep best friends apart…NO WAY! Technology today is better than it ever was for staying connected.

Happy Best Friend’s Day!

Oceanview

We have so many amazing views of the ocean along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. You can take a different route every day or follow some of your favourite drives. I never get tired of it!

A beautiful Sunday afternoon, and after lunch with friends we went for a drive along the coast. This time to Oceanview Gardens and Nursery in Chester. This is a unique nursery with just about anything imaginable. Not only do they carry your typical garden supplies and plants and flowers, but they have giftware, statues and furniture and unique things that I’m sure couldn’t be found anywhere else.

It’s not a spot I would probably purchase things…I just love to look!!!

Here are a few things that caught my eye today…

We finished our drive with dinner at the Fish Shack in Lunenburg with an amazing view. Picton Castle and Bluenose and the best fish and chips around!!

WELL…Isn’t that what this first long weekend is for?

David is back to work this holiday Monday. It’s not a holiday at Michelin but he did take a vacation day tomorrow so we will be back hard it. It’s kinda good he’s working so I can have a break because we’ve been busy. AND…we both just aren’t used to it. Our muscles aren’t used to it after 4 years of not having a home to look after. But when he got home this afternoon, he wanted to get back at it!

So what have we been doing? Why, gardening of course! We, like many people in Canada use the May long weekend as the weekend to get their gardens in shape. Flower gardens and landscaping as well as vegetable gardens and even potting flowers. Usually by the middle of May the risk of frost is gone…usually…so it’s safe to plant. I think this year however, I will wait just a little longer for my flowers.

This year’s project, take back our lawn and gardens!!! OUTSIDE projects and lots of them, Being away is not helpful to lawns but then I don’t feel really bad because our neighbours’ lawns aren’t much better. Between a ban in chemicals that are allowed on lawns and a certain weed that has overtaken all the lawns in our area, our once beautiful lush green lawn is a hill of weeds so…

Get rid of the lawn, get rid of the mature overgrown shrubs, make bigger gardens, rock the hill and then concentrate on growing lush green grass in the spaces that are left…smaller spaces that are left. This weekend we got started!

First thing, take out the shrubs!

GONE!

IMG_3418 IMG_3421

Get some new mulch for the gardens as we cut them bigger!IMG_3430 IMG_3431 IMG_3435 IMG_3439

Plants for the gardens are gonna have to wait…I can’t make up my mind what I want. The bark is all in though and we started on the hill.

Abby’s loving these outside days.

Oh…and we did get time to enjoy a BBQ! Yum, after working really hard, a BBQ tastes soo…wonderful!

And back at it tomorrow!

How did you spend your long weekend? Gardening, travel? Hope you enjoyed it.

Just An East Coast Canadian Girl!

Okay so I can’t stay away from blogging! After a little more thought I decided to continue but with a different approach. A new blog… and a new name…It will be more about things to see and do in Nova Scotia and along Canada’s beautiful East Coast. The food, festivals, events, little hideaways and gems we come across in our travels… after all, I tell everyone how wonderful Canada is and especially Nova Scotia.

I may not post as regularly, certainly not everyday, and posts may just be a picture or two, but it will give me a space to share with readers and those who stumble across my blog, a little taste of the East Coast!

So here’s to a fresh start!
