“life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall”
Whoa, what a difference this morning! Today is a bit cooler…just a taste of what is to come.
Happy 1st of September!
Well… what can I say?
It is the last weekend of August which I guess in my books kinda means the end of summer, although not “officially” until September 23rd. It just gets busy. Kids go back to school this week, programs and activities start up, temperatures are cooler…it’s just different. Gone are the lazy days of summer. David keeps saying he’s got to get out on the bike more!!! He took a drive down to Blue Rocks. It was a perfect night for a photo, full moon and all.
So to say goodbye August weekends and to get ready for September and Fall, we had a campfire and of course s’mores. S’mores are summertime treats. Ooey gooey roasted over an open campfire marshmallow sandwiched in between two graham crackers and oh, don’t forget the little piece of chocolate tucked in there too that melts ever so lightly because of the heat of the marshmallow. Oh yum!!!
This is the inaugural campfire and marshmallow roast! Our backyard renovation still ongoing, but some things complete. I know summer is over but having a fire within town limits is a little more difficult than country living ( we attempted a couple times). But it’s ready and we’ll use it in to the fall and winter too.
Tonight was S’morelicious!
How can you not enjoy the goodness from the sea when you live on the East coast?
There is no question I LOVE SEAFOOD!!!! I could eat it everyday. Lobster, scallops, shrimp, squid, haddock and salmon. And probably in that order. I love clams and mussels too however I don’t think they like me. I think I’ve developed a sensitivity so I am a little more cautious eating them(but I will on occasion) oh..and a little sushi.
Summertime and backyard picnics and quaint seaside restaurants eating outside of course, are a great time to enjoy the “catch of the day”
There is nothing like fresh maritime seafood!!!!
Do you like puzzles? How about mazes? What about life-size mazes that you walk through?
Sunflowers. I LOVE them. With their sunny heads greeting, they make me smile. AND…in the Annapolis valley there are fields of sunflowers!
and one farm even advertises a Sunflower Maze.
I got thinking about sunflowers when a memory popped up on my Facebook newsfeed. 4 years ago living in China and a Saturday outing to the sunflower field. Sunflowers in China are shy though, and were never facing the camera for photos. This was funny and so unlike China culture.
So…another weekend adventure, off we went to the Sunflower field!
Who doesn’t love a stroll around a beautiful park and a chance to admire some flower gardens. Halifax’s Public Gardens have been open since 1867 and are Victorian formal, a popular setting for wedding and prom photos.
We used to take our kids all the time when they were little but it’s been a few years since we were there.
Here are a few pictures from our walk on the weekend.
…bring your friends in one by one 🎵🎵
Summertime is packed full of kids programs…soccer, swimming lessons, learn to sail, kids clubs, church camps and VBS ( Vacation Bible school)…SO MUCH for kids to do these days!!
This week I have been helping out in the kitchen during “Journey Off The Map” VBS. We’re making and providing fun and interesting snacks each night. 72 kids the first night and 90 by the end of the week. It was lots and lots of fun!!!

Thursday night was a real favorite…
Tomorrow night is the closing with a BBQ. What a great WEEK it’s been!!
Who doesn’t love carnival rides, cotton candy, and candy apples?
Gee, I think just about everyone would agree it’s lots of fun, especially if you have children or grandchildren to enjoy it with. It even brings out “the child” in people as you recall days of excitement from childhood, waiting for that one week in the summer when the carnival would come to town.
We had hoped to get to “The Big Ex” in Bridgewater, however there was just too much happening this weekend! There’s always next year, right?
But this afternoon we did drive to Halifax to catch a couple acts of the International Buskers Festival down on the waterfront, see the newly painted Argyle Street, walk around the Carnival set up for Natal Day weekend and have fish & chips from a food truck. A great end to a wonderful weekend!
I still can’t believe we’re in to August!
If anything interesting or unusual happens today… you can say
“Once in a Blue Moon”
Today there is another full moon, the second full moon for the month of July this summer. When a season has four full moons, the third one is called a blue moon.
The moon isn’t actually blue, although sometimes it is because of smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere but usually it’s the beautiful evening sky that gives it a blueish hue.
I love looking at the sky. I did when we were in foreign countries and I do especially at home. We are blessed to have clear skies that you can enjoy stars and planets and especially the moon. It was full last night. ( officially full at 6:43am this morning)
Hope you were able to get out and enjoy the Blue Moon. It is a rare occurrence and only happens once in blue moon!
