Get those shovel’s ready! It’s time to dig out the snowblower and shovels because today Eastern Canada is expected to get the first major snow storm of the season!

At 10am this morning it started.
And 5 minutes later…
And then this afternoon…snow, ice pellets, rain, ice pellets, snow…
And then rain and ice pellets.
In Bridgewater, I think we faired pretty well. Not a major one after all, just very pretty.
Nothing says East Coast and Christmas more than a great feed of lobster. After all, it’s Lobster season here along the East Coast and it’s time to enjoy our annual Christmas time tradition of Lobster ( a little extra seafood too)

Christmas shopping is so much fun! Yes B’y she sure is!! lol I especially love finding different and unique gifts. An trip to some of Halifax’s Malls and shops and there are all kinds of interesting possibilities.
We stopped in to one very interesting shop to browse…who doesn’t love chocolate? And this here shop is Newfoundland Chocolate.
It started as little more than a hobby for Christina and Brent, both graduate students at Memorial University of Newfoundland and is now a famous Artisian Crafted Chocolate Company.
A bit of “Their story” From the Newfoundland Chocolate company’s website...Boxes werenât just boxes of chocolates; they proudly displayed iconic scenes of the companyâs namesake on the covers and instead of just descriptions of the chocolates inside the box, there were maps of Newfoundland and Labrador. For example, a chocolate wouldnât just be a chocolate with blueberries, it would be a chocolate featuring incredible Newfoundland blueberries and would be named after, where else, but the blueberry capital of Newfoundland â Brigus.Â
 The bars would feature those iconic jellybean houses that dot the streets of St. Johnâs with their colour and character. The pan rolled beads of chocolate would be Newfoundland Chocolate Beach Pebbles and when it came time to name the Easter Bunnies, well they just had to be Joey, Danny and Clyde after some of Newfoundlandâs most famous or infamous Premiers. And, when terms of endearment were chosen for the valentineâs day bars, they wouldnât say, âbe mineâ, theyâd say âMe Duckieâ and âSome Sweetâ.
 Everything about the Newfoundland Chocolate Company would be a celebration of not only delicious artisan crafted chocolate but of the culture, beauty and charm of Newfoundland. Brent and Christinaâs vision was to bring Newfoundland and Labrador to the world by making the best, most delicious, most artistically crafted and beautiful chocolates around.
Such a cool store! So if you haven’t found the perfect gift or stocking stuffer for someone…maybe treat them to some nice chocolate…Yum, it’s delicious and FUN even for a Saturday mid morning treat this time of year!

I love a nice evening walk. And this time of year it’s so much fun especially to walk along city streets…oh how I miss that!! So, in my case it’s small town.
My small town stores have beautiful window displays for Christmas!
So pretty!! I may have to try to get to the city to window shop.
After all the rain yesterday, today was gorgeous!! Blue skies and not too chilly. My youngest son was around this morning so we grabbed a Tim’s, headed to Mahone Bay, parked the car, and walked to some of our favourite shops. We spent an hour or so browsing and picking up a few things.
It was just what I needed today!

Here’s a Thursday Throwback! I remember singing this song on the tire swing growing up as a kid.
Yesterday I picked up a bag of clementines at the market ( I eat so many of them this time of year) and they made me smile and think of this!

While at first the song seems to be a sad ballad sung by a bereaved lover about the loss of his darling, the daughter of a miner in the 1849 California Gold Rush, as the verses continue it becomes obvious that the song is in fact a tongue-in-cheek parody of a sad ballad. For example, in the second verse we learn that Clementine’s feet are so big that she has to wear boxes instead of shoes (presumably because size 9 shoes are not available); hardly a detail that would be mentioned in a serious romantic ballad. Her “tragic demise” is caused by a splinter in her toe that causes her to fall and drown â clearly a ridiculous accident, but told in a deadpan style. Finally, at the end of the song, the lover forgets his lost love after one kiss from Clementine’s “little sister”.
 Gerald Brenan attributes the melody to originally being an old Spanish Ballad in his book South from Granada. It was made popular by Mexican miners during the Gold Rush. It is unclear when, where and by whom the song was first recorded in English for others to hear but the first version to reach the Billboard charts was that by Bing Crosby in 1941 when it briefly touched the No. 20 spot.

So it’s kinda funny…nothing to do at all with clementine’s.

That’s right it has been made official!
The donair is the food of Halifax!
For years people have been coming to Nova Scotia, Halifax in particular to try the   sweet and savoury meat-lovers treat that is closely related to the Greek gyro.
Well, in a close tie,  the donair has been elevated to official food status in Halifax. Mayor Mike Savage broke a 7-7 tie yesterday, December 8 at Tuesdayâs Halifax regional council meeting that declares the donair “Halifax’s Official Food”
It is suggested that the donair is to Halifax what the Smoked Meat sandwich is to Montreal, or the Beaver Tail is to Ottawa, as well as British Columbia’s Nanaimo bars and Quebec’s poutine and Saskatchewan’s Saskatoon Berry pie. If you are Canadian you recognize all these.

That’s what he said! David is home today after being away on work meetings the past week. He flew on the corporate jet so they waited until today to fly home which gave the weekend for a little exploring and a few quick visits with friends and family.
Last night after having dinner with his sister, they went out to see some Christmas lights. Well, one house of Christmas lights! It was better than the Griswold’s ( if you’ve watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation)
It is so amazing what some people do with lights this time of year. I would have loved to see this to walk through this Fantasy Land of lights. I am so thankful he took some pictures and video.
