Winter … Spring…Winter?

Brrrr!!! It’s chilly out there!

This Winter season has been interesting to say the least starting with Christmas Day. Beautiful warm, no snow weather and then periodically for the last few months we have had snowstorms, melting, green grass, bike riding temperatures, freezing cold, snow, melting, want to get the rake out be in the garden kind of weather and NOW that it is OFFICIALLY Spring….it is cold and snowy again! Geesh!!!

I took a picture on the 1st Day of Spring…

And took another picture today…

My poor flowers. I am kinda happy I didn’t get around to planting daffodils and tulips like I wanted to…the poor things would be destroyed with this mix up weather.

On the bright side, it is March 22 and we don’t have the mounds and piles of snow we had last year and it is soon gonna warm up…meanwhile, I’m “Spring cleaning” and painting and sprucing things up inside so that when nice weather is here…I’ll be in the garden!

First time to Cuba

We’re not the only ones visiting Cuba this year! This will be the first time to Cuba for David & I and seems like history is being made in that small tropical country South of the United States. In case you didn’t recognize it, from The Int’l Spectator the  IMAGE is Air Force One descending into Cuba.

United States President Obama is in Cuba for a historic three-day visit  and talks with its communist leader. He is the first sitting US president to visit since the 1959 revolution, which was the start of  decades of hostility between the two countries. President Obama will meet President Raul Castro, but not retired revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, and the pair will discuss trade and political reform. Obama first announced moves to normalize ties between the two countries in December 2014 and after much secret talks and meetings, the US reopened its embassy in Havana in August 2015, a month after Cuba reopened its embassy in Washington.

This is just the beginning of travel between the US and Cuba.

While we won’t get to Havana this time, I’m getting excited! Just 22 more days until we fly!

1st Day of Spring = Shower time!

1st Day of Spring and it’s the start of the Wedding Fun Stuff! Today is the first day of Spring, my wonderful Mom’s Birthday, and my very soon beautiful daughter-in-law’s Bridal Shower.

Yesterday Mom & I had fun making a few treats for the shower, little cakes in Kristina’s Wedding colors. ( Turquoise & coral…beach colors for their Cuba Destination Wedding) I always remember making these with my Mom, but what I didn’t realize until yesterday when we were making them, was that Mom and Dad had these little cakes at their Wedding…53 years ago.

The shower was hosted by Kristina’s sister, and family and friends were there to help her celebrate and get the excitement of this wedding started!!

One of her bridesmaids keeping her “occupied” while we finish getting ready lol

This is just the beginning of the fun we’ll have as our son marries his beautiful girl next month. I have always been very close to my kids and I wanted to give my future daughter a special gift from me to her, to let her know just how thrilled I am that she is joining our family. So…a photo book of “Their Story”, a set of Pearls, and a letter written from my heart to hers seemed appropriate.

It was a great afternoon. eek…so excited!!!

Longer days

I LOVE this time of year. SPRING!!!!! The days are getting longer and NOW with the time change we have more day light hours. Yippee!! What’s interesting is that my body starts to adjust to this time of year about 2 weeks before the time change. I start waking up earlier and my body seems to need less sleep.

AND, It doesn’t get dark now until after 7, almost 7:30.

Ahh….

And next weekend, it will OFFICIALLY be Spring and Bridal Shower time and then Easter and before we know it time to fly to Cuba for the wedding…eek…Ok, Ok so I’m getting ahead of myself BUT I love this time of year!

A good start to March Break!

Well, thanks to a nice little freezing rain snow storm that swept through last night, kids are getting an extra long March Break. Next week is March Break in Nova Scotia and today schools along the South Shore were canceled. An EXTRA day for their break. Good news I guess, because there really haven’t been too many “snow day” cancellations this winter.

I guess you are never too old to want to travel on Spring Break because our son James is traveling this week too! And believe it or not he’s headed for “the land down under” So jealous James!!!

Have tons of fun and take lots of pictures!

So I think on this snowy day, I’m gonna enjoy my coffee, clean my house( it should stay cleaner long with James gone haha) and get started on a few projects.

It’s Friday, and the start of March Break…ENJOY!!!!

Where are you headed to if you’re traveling?

It’s About Time!

Our Prime Minister, his wife and family are in Washington for a three day visit with the Obamas. “Mr. Trudeau GOES to Washington!!”

This visit is so long over due!! I have been following it in the news a little bit just because I think Justin & Sophie Trudeau are such a beautiful couple and they are ours! He is our Canada Prime Minister and wife. It’s kinda like Prince William & Kate…kinda. I love seeing and reading about them.

Anyway…the Trudeaus are at the White House  for an official visit and state dinner in their honour and believe it or not, it’s the first visit of it’s kind by a Canadian Prime Minister in over 19 years. 19 years!! Way to go Justin and Sophie!!
