Blossoms

The last couple days my newsfeed has been filled with posts of beautiful pink and white blossoms from around the world. It’s Spring, my favourite season and it’s peak time for cherry blossoms around the world. From Vancouver, Canada to Washington, DC to many parts of China & Japan. Such beautiful images makes my heart long for these places…especially China where I could walk amongst beautiful trees all filled with blossoms.

Last year we were in DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival. That was April last year. This year it is a little early because of the mild winter we’ve had. Oh how I miss it. I wish we had places here in Nova Scotia that were full of cherry trees. I guess I’ll just have to wait for our crab apple trees to blossom…usually in May.

Here are a few images of my favourite trees.

Ahh… so pretty.

Today is Easter Monday and still a holiday for some. We are heading to my parents for dinner with some of the family. These days there is ALWAYS some one working. It’s hard to get everyone together.

It’s not about the bunny

Easter isn’t about eggs or baskets or chocolate and new clothes or toys or Spring, and believe it or not…it’s not about the bunny! Although all those things are fun and are a part of what we do at Easter time, it’s part of our tradition. We enjoy it all with our families. I LOVE bunnies and LOVE decorating that way for Easter

Screen Shot 2016-03-26 at 10.03.04 PM Screen Shot 2016-03-26 at 10.02.00 PMBUT… Easter is NOT about the bunny

EASTER is all about JESUS! It’s about his RESURRECTION.

So while you enjoy today with your family and having fun and exchanging some Easter gifts and treats and having delicious meals…

…don’t forget why we celebrate Easter.

Wishing you a Wonderful Easter Weekend with your family! We had a great day. Church and Easter Brunch and David even went for a quick ride.

Time out for coffee

Some days are nice just to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. And even better if you can enjoy it over great conversation and lots of laughs with dear friends. Wanda & Curt are home from Indiana for a little visit. Actually they were home for a really exciting reason…they are grandparents now!! We are so happy for them. Their grandson is a little doll.

They head back to Indiana next week, so it was nice to get together and catch up.

A Passion for People

It’s a quiet Friday this week because It’s Good Friday! My thoughts are on the cross and the Great sacrifice that was made for all mankind on this day.

On Sunday I watched FOX’s live two-hour musical “Passion”, recounting the last hours of Jesus’ life for a national TV audience “live”  from New Orleans. It was a different modern portrayal of Easter. At least the reason we celebrate Easter. There were many mixed reviews of this program. Many felt is was no better than a Super Bowl half time show or something off American Idol.

Personally, I loved it! I thought it would reach a different audience with the message of the gospel and their need for Jesus. Even though the songs and music were not necessarily “Christian” and more pop music, they were fitting and appropriate for the scenes. Artists like Trisha Yearwood played Mary ( Jesus’ mother) Chris Daughtry played Judas ( Jesus’ betrayer), Seal was Pontius Pilate. And many other famous artists… Jesus was played by Jencarlos Canela. This is my first time hearing him sing and his voice was amazing. The setting was the very same account of so many years ago but played out as if it happened today, in 2016 in New Orleans. And while the reviews might not have been great, it was done by a group that have a heart for people and wanted the message to get out to people that Jesus and the gospel and the need to have faith in him is still very relevant for Today 2016. I loved the music!

If you get chance check it out…maybe today. Just go over to Fox.com to stream it.

Enjoy your long weekend!

They’re back…and they’re hungry!!!

I remember last year this time. And yesterday and today was the same, only this year is much nicer for their arrival. Its Spring and the robins and male evening grosbeaks are back!! AND they’re hungry. Hungry for the little red berries on my crab apple trees in my front garden.

Fill your bellies feathered friends, those trees will soon be filled with beautiful blossoms.

My boy is back in town

Well James is back after having an adventure filled Spring Break. James loves to travel as much as I do and even though we’ll all go to Cuba for the Wedding in April, he wanted to go somewhere for his break in March. So he flew to Toronto but then where?

IMG_0238

Where to go? And without spending a lot of money.

So he is full of resources and talked to his cousin who’s husband works for Air Canada. They can fly ‘Stand by” anywhere Air Canada flies for a relatively low price. He asked if they were up to some travel for March Break and they were. So…the destination they chose. The land down under…

James and his cousin Rachel have been wanting to see Australia together for years! So James, Rachel and her husband Gerald and baby Kiet spent 4 days in Sydney, Australia. They had a great time and lots of adventures and fun getting “stand by” flights. Gerald actually had to stay an extra day in Sydney while James, Rachel and the baby flew home. James finally made it home to Bridgewater yesterday a few days later than expected. And of course with a big smile on his face.( travel does that to a person)

Here are a couple pics from his phone and one from his camera. There hasn’t been time to get all the gorgeous ones from his camera yet.

Don’t you just feel like you’re there?

And it’s soon time for the next adventure! Glad you’re home safely James!

Winter … Spring…Winter?

Brrrr!!! It’s chilly out there!

This Winter season has been interesting to say the least starting with Christmas Day. Beautiful warm, no snow weather and then periodically for the last few months we have had snowstorms, melting, green grass, bike riding temperatures, freezing cold, snow, melting, want to get the rake out be in the garden kind of weather and NOW that it is OFFICIALLY Spring….it is cold and snowy again! Geesh!!!

I took a picture on the 1st Day of Spring…

And took another picture today…

My poor flowers. I am kinda happy I didn’t get around to planting daffodils and tulips like I wanted to…the poor things would be destroyed with this mix up weather.

On the bright side, it is March 22 and we don’t have the mounds and piles of snow we had last year and it is soon gonna warm up…meanwhile, I’m “Spring cleaning” and painting and sprucing things up inside so that when nice weather is here…I’ll be in the garden!

First time to Cuba

We’re not the only ones visiting Cuba this year! This will be the first time to Cuba for David & I and seems like history is being made in that small tropical country South of the United States. In case you didn’t recognize it, from The Int’l Spectator the  IMAGE is Air Force One descending into Cuba.

United States President Obama is in Cuba for a historic three-day visit  and talks with its communist leader. He is the first sitting US president to visit since the 1959 revolution, which was the start of  decades of hostility between the two countries. President Obama will meet President Raul Castro, but not retired revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, and the pair will discuss trade and political reform. Obama first announced moves to normalize ties between the two countries in December 2014 and after much secret talks and meetings, the US reopened its embassy in Havana in August 2015, a month after Cuba reopened its embassy in Washington.

This is just the beginning of travel between the US and Cuba.

While we won’t get to Havana this time, I’m getting excited! Just 22 more days until we fly!

1st Day of Spring = Shower time!

1st Day of Spring and it’s the start of the Wedding Fun Stuff! Today is the first day of Spring, my wonderful Mom’s Birthday, and my very soon beautiful daughter-in-law’s Bridal Shower.

Yesterday Mom & I had fun making a few treats for the shower, little cakes in Kristina’s Wedding colors. ( Turquoise & coral…beach colors for their Cuba Destination Wedding) I always remember making these with my Mom, but what I didn’t realize until yesterday when we were making them, was that Mom and Dad had these little cakes at their Wedding…53 years ago.

The shower was hosted by Kristina’s sister, and family and friends were there to help her celebrate and get the excitement of this wedding started!!

One of her bridesmaids keeping her “occupied” while we finish getting ready lol

IMG_4578 IMG_4579 IMG_4580 IMG_4581 IMG_4583 IMG_4586 IMG_4588 And of course we had to get a couple pictures with her bridesmaidsIMG_4590 and flower girls IMG_4595 and her Mothers 😀IMG_4598

This is just the beginning of the fun we’ll have as our son marries his beautiful girl next month. I have always been very close to my kids and I wanted to give my future daughter a special gift from me to her, to let her know just how thrilled I am that she is joining our family. So…a photo book of “Their Story”, a set of Pearls, and a letter written from my heart to hers seemed appropriate.

It was a great afternoon. eek…so excited!!!
