How can you not enjoy the goodness from the sea when you live on the East coast?
There is no question I LOVE SEAFOOD!!!! I could eat it everyday. Lobster, scallops, shrimp, squid, haddock and salmon. And probably in that order. I love clams and mussels too however I don’t think they like me. I think I’ve developed a sensitivity so I am a little more cautious eating them(but I will on occasion) oh..and a little sushi.
Summertime and backyard picnics and quaint seaside restaurants eating outside of course, are a great time to enjoy the “catch of the day”
I LOVE our summer adventures. Out in our car and off to adventures unknown…
We stopped at interesting little spot for lunch this weekend. It gets great reviews!
And no wonder!! This is the kind of bakery and deli that makes David drool. We shared a Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich, one of the deli’s specialties. We sampled the sugar pie ( delish) and each chose a treat and a coffee for the road. Owners Jacques & Carolyn, natives from Montreal Quebec have the perfect spot. They look after the main dishes and the baked goodies are made daily by their daughter with fresh ingredients, no preservatives and high quality. YUM!! I want to go back for sure. If only we lived a bit closer…but then again maybe not a good idea.
It’s back to work early this morning for David. We had such a wonderful two weeks exploring our beautiful province. A place where tourists from all over the world visit and return year after year. We are blessed that’s for sure!
YESTERDAY, We spent our afternoon enjoying Lunenburg. One of our favourite towns very close to home. We had a leisurely lunch on the waterfront at The Old Fish Factory with our youngest son ( he works there so it was nice for him to be off working hours and join us). Then we got dessert at David’s favourite spot, Sweet Treasures. And enjoyed strolling the streets browsing some shops and just enjoying the afternoon together.
BEAUTIFUL LunenburgAnd today it’s back to work, and back to routine for me.
Today is July 13th. 13 more days and it will be ONE YEAR since we’ve returned from expat. July 26th we flew home from China. I gave myself a year…a year to adjust…a year to eat and do whatever I wanted…because of what we missed being away…
That year is over…pretty much. NOW, it’s time to stop procrastinating, time to stop dwelling on the fact that China will always have a piece of my heart, and Brazil will always be fondly in my memories of our time there. It’s time! TIME to stop procrastinating and live my life to the “fullest” here and now and find what truly makes s me happy here!!!
Have a great Monday my friends and the start of a brand new week!
Only twenty minutes away and it’s just so lovely, I guess it’s become our “go to place” for dinner, a walk ( stroll) and dessert. Yes, Lunenburg.
Tonight we were in Lunenburg with our oldest son and fiancée for dinner. This time the Old Fish Factory was our choice. ( Our youngest son works there part-time, and was working tonight)There are three restaurants in Lunenburg we like. The Grand Banker, The South Shore Fish Shack and The Old Fish Factory & Ice House Bar. It is just a wonderful town.
Another beauty!! We really have to take advantage and do something on these beautiful evenings. One last night, another tonight. These are what we long for during the cold East Coast Winters. Summers can be busy too, but it’s nice to enjoy the evenings.
This evening, the other side of the river…and one of our favourites… Lunenburg!
And another weekend comes to an end. Why do they go so quickly?
Last night after all the rain, the sunset was AMAZING! The promise of a beautiful day for today…AND it was.

This afternoon we decided to go for a drive to Eastern Passage…it’s like the “other side” and down a bit from the Halifax Waterfront that I love so much. I’ve heard Eastern Passage and Fishermen’s Cove were interesting spots, but there is also a Provincial Beach there, MacCormack’s Beach ( I have never heard of) A really interesting spot!
Something we thought was so cool today…There was 2 vans with Chinese students digging clams at the beach.
We talked to one girl and asked where she was from, she said China. Haha We knew that because we recognized the language. She said North East China. So we asked what city ( we lived in North East China) She said Harbin close to Russia. SO COOL!!!!!! We told her we lived in Shenyang for a couple years…ANYWAY…
Fisherman’s Cove was an interesting spot with colorful shops, a government wharf, with boats and lobster traps. There was the beach and a nice boardwalk. Lots of interesting things to look at for a couple hours.
We ended our visit to Eastern Passage with Fish & Chips at the Wharf Wrap Restaurant. It was so good, huge pieces of haddock in a cracker crumb/batter with “secret family seasonings” So good!
We have so many amazing views of the ocean along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. You can take a different route every day or follow some of your favourite drives. I never get tired of it!
A beautiful Sunday afternoon, and after lunch with friends we went for a drive along the coast. This time to Oceanview Gardens and Nursery in Chester. This is a unique nursery with just about anything imaginable. Not only do they carry your typical garden supplies and plants and flowers, but they have giftware, statues and furniture and unique things that I’m sure couldn’t be found anywhere else.
It’s not a spot I would probably purchase things…I just love to look!!!
Here are a few things that caught my eye today…
Lots of color!
We finished our drive with dinner at the Fish Shack in Lunenburg with an amazing view. Picton Castle and Bluenose and the best fish and chips around!!
TODAY is Friday and the start of the first long weekend of the season. It’s gonna be a nice one too…bring it on!
This weekend also kicks off the second edition of my quest to find the BEST fish & chips places in Nova Scotia. Last summer we did this and there were just so many places we didn’t get chance to try that I decided we need to do a little more investigating.
Fish & Chips is a staple food along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. We LOVE our fresh haddock and we can be pretty picky about it. There are so many great spots along the coast where it is a feature on the menu. So once again this summer starting this weekend ( from the May long weekend until Thanksgiving weekend) we are on our search for “THE BEST” in Nova Scotia. Some places we went to last year may have to be re-visited just in case there was a change, but we are hoping to try some new spots too.
…BUT you’ll have to wait until October for the RESULTS!!
