Wedding Day~April 16, 2016 DESTINATION~ Meliá Las Dunas -Cayo Santa Maria, CUBA

What could be more romantic than a tropical wedding?

That is exactly what our son and his fiancé chose for their special day and it was spectacular.

The sky, the water, the sun and the tropical coral and turquoise colors they chose…made for the most gorgeous of pictures.

Here are some of my favourites!

Sneak Peek

We’re Home!! The week went so quickly!! It was fabulous and the wedding was amazing. So beautiful and like something out of a fairy tale.

We’ve been a little busy getting back to routine, and unpacked and laundry and David back to work right away….I haven’t had chance to blog about the trip, and adventures or the wedding. I promise to get at it in the next few days and…we still have the Wedding Reception here next weekend.

In the meantime, here is a sneak peek…

IMG_6115They are such a beautiful couple! Stay tuned…I promise to post some more soon!

Headin’ to Cuba!

Up bright and early! Too early really, ( actually I didn’t even sleep a lot) and off to the airport. We are heading to Cuba this morning. eeekk….so excited…it’s Wedding Week!!!

That’s right, we are on our way to Cuba with a group of 37 family and friends to see our oldest son marry his girl!

And… get a little sun and relax time too!!! The week ahead looks fantastic.

What makes my heart very thankful is both James & Laura will be there with us. Laura didn’t think it would work for her to go and last minute the arrangements were made.

I won’t be posting anything while I am away ( internet and time to do it are issues) but stay tuned for some Wedding pics and highlights when I get back.

Cuba ready…

Our little boy is gonna be a husband…

Our little boy

is now a man

and in less than a week is gonna be a husband!

Today we had a bit of time to spend with our oldest son, the one who is getting married. Andrew is officially on vacay ( Kristina had to work one last shift) and today was a day to get “his stuff” caught up and do some last minute things for the wedding. One of which was a haircut. Andy likes to get his brother or his father to cut his hair. Just easier that way.

We were very happy he was here for lunch and to spend a bit of time with him talking more about the week ahead, getting excited, and just letting him know how proud we are of him and how much we love him and Kristina.

I know he knows all that but it’s nice sometimes to put those thoughts in to actual words and a special gift on this big day.

We LOVE you Andrew. Congratulations!

PS. I can’t wait to dance with you at your Wedding ❤

Colourful Lanterns

IMG_3834 IMG_3837Again this year, I am so happy I brought home some Chinese Lanterns when we returned from living in China. You just can’t find this stuff in our city. We were at an Asian Market in Halifax the day before Chinese New Year started and it made me sad. Well, it made me smile and then it made me sad. Many Chinese families were picking up supplies to celebrate the holiday. Food items, specific things, red couplets and decor, and gift boxed food items (Chinese people tend to give gifts of food) The selection and choices were pretty slim. It made me sad. How do they celebrate their MOST special holiday of the year? How do they get the items, that are so much of ancient tradition to do this? It made me happy that I thought ahead enough to bring a few special things with me. No, I don’t get new couplets year to year, and my simple yet beautiful decorations will have to carry me through the years as I remember the special time of my life I spent there, and as I continue to celebrate the country with special people and friendships made that will always and forever be in my heart.

Today is Lantern Day in China, a full moon, and the official end of the two weeks celebrating Lunar Chinese New Year/Spring Festival. Just wish I could see the lanterns at Qi pan shan  find some tangyaun to eat…

Happy Lantern Day!

~Heritage Day 2016~

ns_heritage_day_002Nova Scotia Heritage Day 2016

Perhaps no one shaped Nova Scotian politics, literature or freedom of the press more than Joseph Howe, youngest son of John Howe. He expressed his love for the province in all he did, from the push for responsible government to his Halifax inspired poetry, such as the Ode to the Town Clock (1836).

As publisher of The Novascotian, a spirited and popular newspaper with commentaries on the day’s events, Howe loyally promoted notable Nova Scotian literature, including the first of Judge Thomas Chandler Haliburton’s Sam Slick series.

Joseph Howe is perhaps best known for his rousing speeches. In particular, the 1835 defence of free speech for the press. Howe had been accused of libel for comments found in The Novascotian towards the magistrates. He was called before the court, and as no lawyer would defend him, Howe represented himself. He spoke to the court for two days, and after a short deliberation, was acquitted of all charges. The event is commemorated on a statue of Howe located next to Nova Scotia Province House. At the base is a bronze plaque showing the newspaper publisher addressing the court.

Howe eventually became a member of the Legislature in 1836, then Premier from 1860-1863, and then finally, a federal cabinet minister. He was appointed Lieutenant Governor for a short time before his death in 1873 and now lies buried beneath a slab of Nova Scotian granite in Camp Hill Cemetery.

Joseph Howe is this year’s Heritage Day Honouree…

It’s fun to celebrate our beautiful province on Heritage Day. And what better way then with some traditional local food. Last year we enjoyed homemade Beavertails and Lobster. This year I went for something a little different … Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes! This is a Lunenburg county meal and my family loves it. And for dessert…Apple Pie with Ice Cream. ( February is Apple Month in Nova Scotia) Delish!

I LOVE YOU Snowwww MUCH!! ❤

It’s Valentine’s Day!! And another snowy day on the weekend.

That’s ok…no big plans today. My sweet Valentine is working a 12 hour shift today and tomorrow and I’m staying cozy inside curled up drinking coffee, having a few treats and reading a good book. Just a wonderful relaxing day.

Happy Valentine’s Day…I hope you are enjoying some special moments with your loved ones!
